When do the tiny house ants come out?

The tiny ants always come out when the weather starts to turn cold. When the rainy season comes, it comes out. Ants leave their homes in the soil and make their way up to the surface when temperatures go over 65 degrees Fahrenheit. They usually start at night and will escape from cracks, like gaps between window and door frames, or any other small spaces. Ants will move higher up into the branches of trees, near water sources such as ponds, lakes, or streams.

They also forage for food on warm nights. Ants will eat anything that they can; we recommend not leaving food out on surfaces that ants can access, such as counters or floors. This includes fruits and vegetables even if they are peeled! Ants need a source of sugar so store jams, honey, or any other sweet foods in a sealed container where they won’t be easily accessible to them.

When ants become a problem in the home, the best way to control them is to eliminate their food source. Eliminate crawling insects and plant tubers that attract ants because they are high in fat and sugar content. Keep indoor plants clean and away from window and door frames.
